Accessibility statement
This statement covers the public pages of essence.digital: the homepage, our insights and knowledge articles, and pages such as our privacy notice.
Our commitment
We want this website to be usable by as many people as possible. That includes people who navigate with a keyboard, use a screen reader or screen magnifier, zoom the page, or read on a small screen.
We design and test against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, and we aim to meet them at level AA.
How the site is built
Pages are written in plain HTML and declare their language, so screen readers pronounce the text correctly.
Each page has a single main heading, and the headings below it follow in order. Our insight and knowledge pages mark out the header, navigation, main content and footer, so screen reader users can move straight to the part they want. Knowledge articles open with an "On this page" list that links to each section.
Every image on our pages has a text alternative.
Each field in our enquiry form has its own label, and the form sends as a standard HTML form.
Our homepage, articles and privacy notice load no scripts. They work in full with JavaScript turned off, including the enquiry form.
Reading on any screen
Text reflows to fit the screen. Our pages can be read at a width of 320 pixels, the width of a small phone or a desktop browser zoomed to 400 per cent, without scrolling sideways.
On a phone, the navigation moves to its own row, and its links are given extra height so they are easier to tap.
Every build of the site checks key pages at phone, tablet and desktop widths. The build stops if a page scrolls sideways, or if any text is covered by another element.
Colour and contrast
Text and link colours are chosen from our design system's tokens. We check them against the backgrounds they sit on using the WCAG contrast formula:
- body text measures 8.2 to 1 on white and 7.3 to 1 on our paper background;
- headings measure 10.9 to 1 on white and 9.8 to 1 on paper;
- secondary text, such as dates and labels, measures 6.2 to 1 on white and 5.5 to 1 on paper;
- links within text measure 5.5 to 1 on white and 4.9 to 1 on paper;
- text in our footer measures 5.7 to 1 on its dark background.
Using a keyboard
You can reach every link in the header, and the enquiry form, using the Tab key. The order follows the order on screen, from the logo through the navigation to the page content. Links and buttons show a clear outline when they receive keyboard focus.
How we test
We test the site ourselves, with automated accessibility tools and with manual checks: moving through pages by keyboard, reading them at narrow widths and with JavaScript turned off, and measuring the colours the browser actually displays. This statement reflects our testing as of October 2026.
Tell us about a problem
If you find something on this site hard to use, or you need any of our content in a different format, such as large print, plain text or audio, email hello@essence.digital.
Tell us the web address of the page and what you were trying to do. We aim to reply within five working days.
Preparation of this statement
This statement was prepared in October 2026 and is reviewed as the site changes.
